Our seventh show was West Side Story in January of 2013. It was directed by Rebecca Pearl.
In an article in Délit about AUTS’ West Side Story, the article notes that “Piper Ainsworth plays Maria’s difficult role in a very touching way” (translated from French).
BroadwayWorld.com reviewed the show saying, “The McGill cast of West Side Story breathed energy into this endearing tale of hopefulness and love that can be appreciated by all.”
The McGill Tribune also mentions how “By the very end of the production, AUTS’ cast finds a powerful emotional chord to pluck, finally fulfilling the potential that is drizzled tantalizingly throughout the show.”
McGill’s The Bull and Bear even mentioned the show, stating “McGill’s musical talent is fresh and remarkable – both leads, Tony and Maria (played by Christopher Stevens-Brown and Piper Ainsworth respectively) sing with bright and clear voices that carry well throughout the theatre. The Jets are standouts as well, providing lively comic relief in the form of dynamic blends of song and dance. “Gee, Officer Krupke” delivered laughs, and thus brought us to a higher place from which to fall in awaiting the musical’s tragic ending.”
